John Hanson US President 1781

Who was the first President of the United States of America most would say George Washington, but many say John Hanson?

Unless you listened to my show, you probably answered incorrectly. I’ll give you a hint, it was not George Washington.

Give up? It was John Hanson or not. as I always say, "to the victor goes the history". One thing is absolute, he was either the first or the third, but he certainly played a pivitol role in the survival of a fledgling USA.

Who is John Hanson you say? He was probably more responsible for our nation becoming what it was than the whole lot of those whose names you know well.

Hanson was unanimously chosen by the Continental Congress to be the first President in 1781 under the Articles of Confederation. Each president served a one year term.

Hanson is not celebrated as the first US President because in 1789 the Articles of confederation were scrapped for a “better” version, the United States Constitution.

He died in 1783 in Maryland.

The historical record of John Hanson’s actions surrounding the Continental Congress’ exodus from Philadelphia in the USA’s fledgling moments, I believe, if they are accurate, nearly singlehandedly saved us from living under another monarchy of our own making.
